1. A return to tariffs - US President Donald Trump’s trade taxes are set to step up for Australia with a 200% tariff on pharmaceuticals and 50% on copper imports. Yikes… Cue a focus on what our Ambassador to the US/former PM Kevin Rudd is doing to smooth relations with the White House…
2. A peace offering - Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu headed to Washington this week, presenting Trump with a Nobel Peace Prize nomination. As for a ceasefire in Gaza, Hamas has agreed to release 10 hostages to see that through and Israel says something could be in place within days.
3. The Maroons leave NSW feeling blue - The Queenslanders took home the State of Origin title after defeating NSW 24-12 in front of their home crowd in Sydney. NSW coach Laurie Daley said they “didn’t nail the moments”. There’s always next year…
4. Hold your interest rate horses - The Reserve Bank delivered a shock call to hold interest rates at 3.85%. It was a surprise because inflation’s down, but Governor Michele Bullock said they weren’t confident it’s going to stay there given changing global conditions (see item 1…).
5. Guilty, guilty, guilty, guilty - After 9 weeks of evidence and 7 days of deliberation, the jury delivered their verdict over the trial of Erin Patterson and her death-cap mushroom lunch - guilty on 3 counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. Sentencing is likely in August or September, and we're still waiting to see if Team Patterson will lodge an appeal.

Sunday - American Amanda Anisimova will play Polish Iga Świątek in Wimbledon’s women’s final from 12am on 9Now. And Talisman Sabre - the largest joint military exercise run by Australia and the US - kicks off in Australia’s north.
Monday - Set the alarm/don’t go to bed - the Wimbledon men's singles final will see Carlos Alcaraz and Jannick Sinner battle it out from 12am, watch that on 9Now. And school goes back for Term 3 in Queensland and the Northern Territory.
Tuesday - It’s back to school for students in Victoria, and Wrexham FC continues their Aussie tour, taking on Sydney FC at Allianz Stadium in Sydney. You can watch that at 7:30 pm on Paramount+.
Wednesday - Tonight, Tasmanian Premier Jeremy Rockliff and Labor leader Dean Winter go head to head in a Sky News-hosted debate.
Thursday - The Bureau of Stats will release an update on Labour Force data, and the Primetime Emmy nominations are out early morning.
Friday - And it’s the Katherine Show Day in the Northern Territory - a shout-out to any show-goers we have.
