1. LA Immigration Protests - This story has been at the top of news after immigration officers arrested around 120 people across Los Angeles last week on alleged immigration violations. That sparked a wave of both peaceful marches and violent clashes, prompting US President Donald Trump to call in the National Guard. A US Court of Appeals is on hold until next week to rule if that’s legal or not…
2. Gaza escalations - The week started with news that the Madleen - a ship crewed by activists including Greta Thunberg, which sought to break the aid blockade to Gaza - was intercepted by Israel’s Defence Force. The Albanese Government imposed travel and financial sanctions on 2 far-right Israeli Ministers. And yesterday, Israel launched a barrage of strikes on targets in Iran, including their nuclear programme, prompting Iran to return fire. Yep, it’s been a big week there…
3. Another Monash IVF mix-up - If that name sounds familiar, it might from an incident back in April where a woman gave to a stranger’s baby from an IVF mix-up in 2023. This week that company found a second mix-up - in this case they’d “incorrectly transferred” a patient’s embryo. The company’s CEO Mike Knapp is gawn and state and federal Health ministers have launched a review.
4. Soaring Socceroos - Oz’s soccer blokes have qualified for the 2026 World Cup after defeating Saudi Arabia 2-1 at the Asian Qualifiers early on Wednesday morning. Canada, Mexico and the US are set to host the cup across 16 cities - so hardcore fans, get ready for a road trip…
5. Air India - There are 241 people who have died after Air India Flight AI171 crashed shortly after takeoff in the city of Ahmedabad, India. It was heading to Gatwick Airport in London, but crashed into a medical school residence where students were eating lunch. They are still unsure as to the cause of the crash, but the black box recorder has been recovered.

Pitbull (aka Mr Worldwide) - it’s a bit of a thing for fans to copy the rapper’s iconic look when they go to his concerts - and they don’t skimp on details, right down to his shiny bald head. This was on hilarious display this week at a big concert in London, and he said it best himself: “Every time I'm at a show, I let them know that when you put on a bald cap, I hope you're ready to have the time of your lives.”

Saturday - PM Anthony Albanese is heading to the US (from Fiji) for talks on the sidelines of the G7 Summit - and maybe to wish a happy birthday to President Donald Trump, who turns 79.yo. And they’re Trooping the Colour at Buckingham Palace to mark the King’s birthday (it’s the one where all the Royals come out onto the balcony…).
Sunday - The Cairns Ironman gets underway at 6am (good luck with that…). For F1 fans, qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix is on at 5am with the race set for Monday 3am - watch those on Kayo. And it’s another big birthday - Chinese President Xi Jinping turns 72yo.
Monday - The G7 Leaders’ Summit begins in Canada where the chosen few will talk tariffs, global instability and all the stuff - here’s a good explainer. Also, the TV Week Logie Awards nominees will be announced.
Tuesday - It’s Eat Your Vegetables Day AND the start of World Continence Week - so get that fibre in.
Wednesday - Treasurer Jim Chalmers will speak at the National Press Club in Canberra on Australia's “Second Term Economic Agenda”. State of Origin Game 2 in Perth kicks off at 8pm eastern time - watch it on 9Now.
Thursday - The WA Budget will be handed down. And for Australia’s up-and-coming rugby players, it’s the men's and women's Under-19 State of Origin at Sunshine Coast Stadium, also on 9Now.
Friday - It’s Matariki, marking the beginning of the Māori New Year. And to top off the work week, bring your pooch into the office - it’s Take Your Dog to Work Day.
