🤷‍♀️ IDK: Is shooting the coolest Olympic sport?

This week's top stories

Our apologies go to the latest inflation data and the West/Russian prisoner exchange - they didn’t score an invite to this week’s top 5…

Streem (radio, print and TV mentions) - 24 July to noon 2 August

1. Oi oi oi… - The time zone sucks a bit, but c’mon, it’s the Olympic Games… After a remarkable Opening Ceremony (that veteran ceremony arranger Ric Birch said was unusual/nice/different except that it forgot the athletes…), it was on with it. Jess Fox, our swimmers and so many more - bravo. And there’s more where that came from..

2. Locking it down - US Vice President Kamala Harris is about to become the Democrats’ official candidate for president in the November election. The party’s delegates are voting on that as we speak, and the process will be wrapped up early next week. Next up: who will be her running mate?

3. A dreadful week for stability in the Middle East - First there was an airstrike on the Golan Heights last Saturday night that Israel blamed on terror group Hezbollah in Lebanon. Then Israel retaliated - it says it killed their top military commander Fuad Shukur in a strike on Beirut. And the political leader of Hamas was said to be killed in Iran this week - his name was Ismail Haniyeh. And Israel said it had killed Mohammed Deif - Hamas’s military leader in Gaza - in a strike on southern Gaza about 3 weeks ago. It’s been a lot…

4. Rex investors brace for impact… - That’s because our third-largest airline has hit financial turbulence that has seen it can its capital city flights to stem the losses while maintaining its regional routes. The Albanese Government says it’ll consider support given the airline is essential to regional travellers.

5. The worst attack on kids in the UK in recent history - A 17yo boy has been charged with 3 counts of murder and 10 counts of attempted murder after he allegedly launched a stabbing attack on a Taylor Swift-themed dance class. And as the community came together to mourn, far-right agitators rioted after anti-migrant/anti-Muslim disinformation spread about the attacker. There’s a lot of ‘what the heck just happened’ in the UK in the aftermath…

S’Quiz me real good…

Reckon you know what trouble Aussie airline Rex found itself in this week? Have a crack at the Squiz Quiz.

Picture of the week

This is a photo of Gabriel Medina, an Olympic surfer from Brazil, taken by photographer Jérôme Brouillet. He puts it down to perfect conditions at Teahupo'o, Tahiti where the surfing comp is being held - and we reckon there’s also a bit of skill involved…

Question of the week

Do you ever digitally declutter?

Squizers have once again proven that you’re (mostly) an organised crew. Here are some responses…

Ugh, admin - “Prompted by a lack of cloud or disc space, I begrudgingly declutter until the next reminder.”

Gold status - “Where's the option for: I'm a digital nerd so I have a server and multiple backups of all important documents and pictures with both local and cloud backups.”

Not my problem - “I’ve got 35,826 unread emails… It stresses my kids out, but I don’t notice.”

Squiz Recommends

Dreaming - If a holiday isn’t on the cards right now this TIME article, The World’s Greatest Places to Visit, might be just what you need. It’s essentially a photo gallery, but you can click through and formulate your bucket list… We can totally see ourselves at the Four Seasons Resort in Koh Samui, where the upcoming season of White Lotus was recently filmed

Reading - Chris Whitaker’s latest novel All The Colours of the Dark. It’s an international bestseller, so we thought we’d find out what all the hype was about and it didn’t disappoint. If you enjoy a good mystery story, give this one a go.

Watching - Came from Nowhere on SBS is a doco about the rise of the Aussie football team Western Sydney Wanderers. Through the eyes of fans and players, it tells the underdog story of how the (at times controversial) team rose to win the AFC Asian Champions League. It’s a heartwarming and feel-good watch.

In the Kitchen

Soft, fluffy, coconutty... This cake was a winner at a recent birthday shindig. It might have been because we used the fancy flour recommended but we reckon it's the cream-cheese-based icing. Yum.

Upping your at-home game

Hommey make your home a place to get comfy, and their new pinstripe collection of robes, hair wraps and towels are an elevated take on the classic design. If you want that sense that you have it all under control (even if you're fakin' it 'til you make it...) because you're organised with great out-of-the-shower items, you'll find that across 6 new colours. Explore the bathroom collection’s enduring style at gethommey.com.

Double-Tapping

This is Kim Yeji, a South Korean markswoman who won silver in the 10m Air Pistol comp and just looked ridiculously cool while doing it.
