1. Never-ending negotiations - An agreement between the US and Iran that extends the ceasefire for another 60 days and would launch talks on Iran’s nuclear program is still being considered by US President Donald Trump. It’s been a rollercoaster week, including airstrikes by both sides.
2. Another round of arrivals from Syria - Seven women and 12 children with links to ISIS landed in Sydney and Melbourne on Tuesday evening after leaving the al-Roj camp last week. No arrests have been made, but their belongings and devices have been searched. Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke has reiterated that the government did not assist these families to return…
3. Tax changes hit parliament - The Albanese Government introduced its Budget legislation this week, including the CGT changes that some business owners and startup founders say will hinder investment and innovation in Australia. The Greens have indicated they will play ball in Team Albanese’s quest to get it done and dusted by the end of June.
4. A second round of public hearings - This block is focusing on security and intelligence in the lead-up to the Bondi attack, with the Royal Commission into Antisemitism and Social Cohesion hearing from ASIO boss Mike Burgess and senior federal and NSW police officers. 5. The death of a legend - AFL great and last year’s Australian of the Year Neale Daniher died on Monday at 65yo - it was 13 years on from his diagnosis with Motor Neurone Disease (MND)… Daniher was AFL royalty before he worked tirelessly to raise awareness and a lot of money for the dreadful disease. There will be a state funeral for Daniher on 10 June at the MCG.
